A British clothing site, Meanfellas
, was created last year by Alex Olliver, who thought designing, printing and selling tees featuring pop culture references would be a fun departure from his music-oriented gig. His series of shirts include nods to British television characters, soccer teams, and yes, English literature.
“The only rule I set was that we wanted to avoid the clichéd, crass and offensive t-shirts that seem to be everywhere these days,” Olliver says.
The bookish garb includes an Ambercrombie & Fitch-looking tee representing the Everett Steering Academy wrestling team and a logo for Santiago & Manolin Fishing that wouldn’t look out of place in a sporting goods store.
